Describe yourself as a child:
One of my earliest memories involves dressing up with my grandparents scarves and dancing around for relatives, and as soon as I finished, I ran into another room....I loved attention, celebration, and my family's laughter, but I was shy! I loved visiting with extended family. When I was about 8 years old, I flew to Washington D.C. to visit my favorite cousin, Becky. I was so independant, even then, that upon arrival, I simply exited the plane, and went to meet my relatives. I was excited! Not until I heard my name announced over the airport loudspeaker, did I remember I was supposed to wait for the flight attendant to escort me...I was happy and healthy. Although, in the first grade, I was hospitalized with pneumonia/mono. and it was one of the scariest times of my life. I hated the endless tests, treatments, and IV's. While in the hospital, I made a friend who was around my age. She had cystic fibrosis, and spend a lot of time in the hospital. We met while filming a little educational video on receiving an IV, and it was to be shown on the hospital's closed circuit TV to young patients so they would know what to expect. We became good friends during my two-week stay. Basically, learning about how difficult her life was, and how uncertain her future was, made me appreciate what I had.

What was it like growing up in your family?

We were, and remain, very close. My mother, as a teacher, had summers off, so much time was spent at the beach, the park, the neighborhood pool, the library (I love reading! My brothers, however, require bribes at times...) My family often went camping, and each summer brought the annual road trip to a neighboring state. My mom was a bit of a health nut, so candy or soda was a rare treat(I appreciate it now!) I would feel guilty if such contraband was offered to me at a friend's house, so I would always call to ask for permission before indulging in oreo's and kool-aid. (My mom laughs when we talk about these stories today.) My brother, however, would often return home with an obvious purple stain surrounding his mischievous grin. To this day, my brothers are my best friends. Others amaze at how we choose to spend time together-going to movies, concerts, rollerblading or working out...so I recognize that I am very lucky to have the family I do!

What is your earliest childhood memory?

Other than the one described above, I recall sitting on my grandfather's lap, "reading" him the story of The Three Little Pigs. Of course, I was only barely repeating the story I had been read countless times, but I am told he would boast of how his granddaughter could read at only 3 years old!
